Meet the 2024 WYS Board of Directors Nominees:

Amy Martinez | Kennewick, WA

In the six years I have served on the Three Rivers Soccer Club board, I have learned a lot about the ins and outs of youth soccer (and youth sports in general). I’ve enjoyed helping the club grow and improve, so the idea of participating at the state level is exciting to me. Not only do I still get to still have an impact on the kids in my area, I’d have an impact on kids across the state. I’m passionate about helping kids of all backgrounds succeed and I think this is a great opportunity for me to participate in.

Art King | Renton, WA

I believe I bring a wealth of soccer administration experience that would benefit the board. I have been both a soccer club, association, and league officer. I am very familiar with the different roles, operations, and challenges of these organizations. That experience and insight would be valuable addition to the WYS board. I would like to help lead WYS into the future, growing overall membership, develop soccer in under-served areas, and see our member clubs/associations receive the support to thrive in their areas. I believe that as a member of the board I can bring my valuable experience to the group and help WYS continue to be a leader in youth sports.

Candice Bock | Olympia, WA

I would be pleased to have the opportunity to serve on the WYS Board. I have spent over 10 years volunteering with youth soccer as a coach, club president, and association board member and president. I think the most important thing about youth sports is giving kids the opportunity to be part of a group where they learn teamwork and sportsmanship. Being part of WYS is an opportunity to continue to support and grow participation in youth soccer. I have watched as we have struggled to recruit and retain the necessary dedicated adult volunteer coaches and board members. I am excited about the opportunity to be part of supporting the development and growth of the critical volunteers across the state who make youth soccer possible. In addition to my interest in youth soccer, I also have years of professional background in governance, budgeting, communications, advocacy, grant management, and working in a statewide non-profit association. I think this experience will also be beneficial in serving WYS.

Jill Christiansen | Spokane, WA
  • Hoping to provide institutional knowledge with many new board members.
  • Committed to youth soccer, especially recreational opportunities and enjoy involvement in WYS organization.
  • Believe I provide valuable HR perspective in moving the organization forward.
Manny Perez | Sammamish, WA

I’m writing to express my strong interest in joining the WYSA board. Even without playing on organized teams, soccer was woven into my life from childhood. From schoolyard games to cheering on local, regional, and international teams, I’ve experienced firsthand the power of soccer to unite people and bring out their best qualities: discipline, focus, teamwork, passion, and wellness. And of course, it’s simply the most fun game in the world!

Marcus Riccelli | Spokane, WA

I believe soccer IS community, and the more we can expand access and love for this beautiful game the better off our communities will be. I also believe the obesity and diabetes epidemic our youth face is a national crisis. We much increase opportunities for young people to live healthy active lifestyles and soccer can deliver on that on many levels. I would love to have the opportunity to give back to a game that has given me so much.
