Levels of Play

Washington Youth Soccer oversees three levels of play, each with their own leagues throughout the state. Having these levels helps players of all skill levels find the right club and league for them. Check out our Find a Club feature, and you’ll see one of three tags describing the club’s level:

Recreational

Any club or league where the use of tryouts, invitations, recruiting, or any similar method of adding players to the roster selectively based on talent or ability is prohibited. Recreational soccer is all about having fun with players of the same age group without the pressure or time commitment of higher-level competition.

Select

Select clubs and leagues are designed to provide an opportunity for players to experience a more competitive level than Recreational. Players on Select clubs will often go through a tryout process and receive advanced technical and tactical coaching instruction.

Premier

The highest echelon of competitive youth soccer in Washington, Premier clubs play year-round in the Regional Club League (RCL) and often travel to participate in other regional and national competitions.
